About Us

Into the wild UK is a family run business based in the East Midlands. We produce luxury shepherd huts that are built to last. Each hut is built by our highly experienced designers and tradesmen, who are passionate about creating beautiful and practical spaces.

Our family have been in the joinery business for five generations. We’ve built everything from vintage busses to boats and furniture. In the 1980s our workshop produced garden buildings, sheds, fitted kitchens, doors and windows. We’ve supplied film sets and props to film companies and tourist attractions including some world-famous wagons (see video) we manufactured full size oak timber framed houses using traditional hand tools. During the 1990s we started a natural stone division. This side of business grew and now supplies landmark buildings across London, Cambridge and much of England.

We now employ over 40 people and run our own fleet of HGV lorries. Our works are based in Ancaster Lincolnshire and Newark, Nottinghamshire. Our Into the Wild UK shepherd huts aim to be accurate depictions of the traditional English shepherded hut. We also build versions which are of cutting-edge design. We have huts with pull out sides, pull out bathrooms, off grid models, themed vinyl image models. We are currently working on an extreme polar hut for winter letting and highly suitable for cold climates. The specifications include triple glazing, high spec insulation, intelligent heated plumbing pipes throughout, a woodburning stove. We can also offer a fireproof model for when grass fires are a risk. All of our huts are available at affordable prices.

Where it began

This photograph taken during the 1990’s was in snowdonia national park in the heart of a pine forest. Before we could build the structure which would serve as our home, we had to fell trees. A living pine tree was used as the centre post. It was a twenty minute walk to the nearest logging track, where our vehicle lay waiting. And then a further 15 minute drive to the nearest tarmac mountain road. All the food was cooked on open fires, one outside and a smaller one within the structure. We had no running water, just the mountain streams. The toilet was a thunder box with spectacular views over Barmouth Bay and the sea beyond. There was no bath or shower, just a crystal clear river that cascaded through the forest, along with water filtered through stone into an abandoned gold mine.

The Chelsea Flower Show

Phil was a qualified NHBC builder for over thirty years. He overseas the technical elements of the build and maintains high standards throughout. We were invited to exhibit at the 1991 Chelsea flower show, London. We displayed a range of products including temples, gazebos, bird aviary’s & garden buildings. Our unique selling point was the use of natural stone and timber in the designs & construction of the structures.
